It is said that our experience of the space around us can heavily influence the way we feel. To be able to understand the aspects of an environment is the core of Interior Designing. In this course, we offer to give our students in-depth learning about all the various elements that are needed to create an environment that can truly elevate the senses.
Ever walked into a restaurant, cafe, boutique or hotel, and suddenly that has affected your mood? Or maybe felt a sense of tranquillity once you have come back home at the end of a long day? Well, that is the job of an interior designer- to design a space or provide an experience that leaves an everlasting impression. What most people do not know is that there are many elements at work to create that feeling right from the lighting, to furniture, to upholstery, decor items, art, and so much more.
In this course, we provide the students with an intensive knowledge of all of the above.
The course also covers a design process that deals with conceptualising a theme, finding an inspiration, understanding pattern and texture, planning a layout, understanding ornamentation, furnishings and learning the art of designing spaces both residential and commercial. Along with this, students have an opportunity for practical insight about how one needs to coordinate with contractors, understand furniture, fittings and equipment, budget planning and optimisation. The client could be anyone right from a homemaker to a restaurant owner. Understanding the emotional aspect of space, or what space represents about their brand, is another essential component that we focus on in this course.
During the course, the students work on projects which they complete by working together as a team. The project is inclusive of sample boards, written work and drawings to back up their inspirations. They study trends and influences. All the work is supervised under the tutelage of an experienced interior designer throughout the course.
The London School of Trends has an exclusive tie-up with Decorex (a design exhibition) which allow the students to attend this exhibition and this is a part of the programme in the first week itself. Our course includes several visits and field trips to museums, boutiques and other fairs, where the students are taught how to appreciate and study the various types of designs, designers and their inspirations. Students will also be required to make their assessments and participate in classroom discussions regarding the same.
Throughout this course, students will be trained right from scratch from what they need to ask the client, to how to make a client brief, what factors to pay attention to, how to coordinate vision with the contractors. As the course progresses, a detailed study of furniture and the evolution of it, designing for contemporary spaces versus modern spaces, and practical knowledge about dealing with suppliers.
With a well-rounded approach to interior design and styling, this course will certainly give the students an essential foundation for them to be able to pursue a career along this path.
Some of the many fields that will be open to the students after the completion of this course are:
1) Interior designing and styling for homes and residential spaces
2) Interior designing and styling for commercial spaces (restaurants, hotels, offices, co-working spaces, brands, boutiques and labels)
3) Any other fields related to interior decor and styling, sourcing, or being a consultant.
